The Origami Whale is one of the most popular crafting activities for children. Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, promotes the development of fine motor skills and activates both sides of the brain. Both children and adults equally benefit from this creative activity. Our instructions are child-friendly - with videos and photos for each individual step. Don't be afraid to start! We test each instruction with a 10-year-old child. If the child succeeds, you will too!

An Origami whale brings the underwater world directly to your table. Children love this figure because they can recreate stories from the sea with it. The folded whale can float as decoration in the children's room or can be used in play with other sea creatures.

While folding, you train patience, concentration, and precision. You also learn that each step must be executed precisely. If a mistake happens, you simply start over. Origami folding helps to hone your endurance and discipline.

Origami Whale: Folding Instructions with Video and Images

Before you begin folding your whale, watch the video once or twice. For your Origami project, we recommend special Origami paper. You can find it in almost any stationery store. The packs contain square sheets in various colors. Origami paper is thinner than regular paper and easier to fold.

Step 1: First, fold two diagonal lines in your square. Then, place the paper with a point upwards and fold the two side corners towards the center.

Step 2: Turn the paper and fold the bottom pointed corner upwards. Turn it over again and pull the two inner corners downwards. Now comes the fun part: Your whale is doing the splits! Spread the "legs" apart and fold the short corners to the same side. Turn your whale over and fold one corner in half. This fold must be on the same side as the short corners.

Step 3: Fold the whale in half and tuck the two blunt corners inside, leaving a small distance of 5-7 mm. Now come the fins: Fold them to the opposite side. If the pictures are not clear enough, watch our video. There, we demonstrate each step in slow motion and with all details.
