Origami haunted house for Halloween: Instructions with video, photos, and text

Are you looking for a guide on how to craft an origami haunted house for Halloween with your child? Then you are in the right place! Halloween is that fascinating holiday that children particularly love – with spooky costumes, collecting candies, and of course, creating Halloween decorations together. Our children only grow up once, and the time when they want to be creative with us passes faster than we realize. Later, it will be too late for these special moments together. We know how fulfilling it is to create something unique with your child. That's why we have prepared this detailed step-by-step guide.

Origami Haunted House: Step-by-Step Guide with Photos and Text Description

To help you easily understand how this fantastic haunted house is made, our guide consists of a detailed video, photos for each individual step, and precise text descriptions. This way, you can follow along easily and know exactly what to do at each step.

Materials

For this Halloween origami haunted house, you will need:

  • Black craft paper
  • A pair of scissors
  • A pen or marker that is visible on black paper (we used a white gel pen)
  • Colored paper for the windows (orange or yellow works well)
  • Glue
  • Optional: a picture frame for hanging

All of these materials can easily be found in any supermarket in the crafting and stationery department, or you may already have them at home. Since this is a kids' project, we deliberately avoided using complicated materials. Creating Halloween decorations should be fun and not turn into stress!

We intentionally designed this haunted house as a flat artwork so that you can perfectly place it in a picture frame and hang it as an atmospheric wall decoration under glass. This turns the crafting project into a real gem for your home!

Step 1: Fold the paper diagonally. Then fold the two sides towards this diagonal line. Turn the paper over and fold the two sides back towards the middle, making sure the bottom edges become smooth. This is important.

Step 2: Draw a line with a pencil between the two corners. Then, orient yourself at the intersection of this line with the middle vertical fold line and bend the two bottom edges in opposite directions. Paint the corners as shown in the picture. Then, you must flip the paper and fold it horizontally.

Step 3: Flip the paper over again. Take colored paper of a different color to cut out windows and doors for our haunted house.

Step 4: Take glue and stick the windows and doors on. You can also use a gel pen to paint the house. Check out the photo and the video on how we did it. Experiment with different paper colors. If it doesn't work the first time, don't get discouraged, try again, it will surely work the second time. And don't forget that you can place this origami house under glass in a frame and hang it on the wall as a picture.

Origami Haunted House: Benefits of Creative Crafting for Child Development

Folding and creatively crafting with hands has immense value for your child's development. The fine motor skills trained during precise folding, cutting, and decorating are directly linked to brain development. Scientific studies show that fingerwork in children promotes the formation of new neural networks in the brain. These connections are crucial for overall cognitive development.

As parents, we have the responsibility to foster our children's development so they have the best chances for a happy future. Of course, this includes activities like reading together, solving logical puzzles, healthy eating, and physical activities. But as we can see, engaging in creative activities like crafting Halloween decorations is equally significant. These creative processes not only strengthen motor skills but also concentration, perseverance, and a healthy sense of self-esteem.
