Here we show you the first steps. Top left, you cut off the top part of the plastic bottle. Top right, you attach the red ribbon to the bottle as a hanger. Bottom left, you see the prepared colored paper sheets and the adhesive tape. Bottom right, you cut the colored papers into narrow strips - make sure not to cut all the way to the end so that the strips remain connected on one side.

In the last step, you make your lantern shine! At the top left, you stick double-sided tape around the bottle - this is a safe method without hot glue, so your child does not burn themselves. However, if you feel confident and trust the process, you can also use a hot glue gun with your child. At the top right, you begin to attach the colorful paper strips to the outside of the bottle, with the bright colors red and yellow. At the bottom left, you can see how the multicolored strips are attached around the whole bottle. At the bottom right is the finished lantern with the string lights inserted - now you can hang it up and enjoy the colorful light display!

Light and Colors: Fascination for Children's Eyes

Children are magically drawn to light and colors. Especially the combination of colorful, bright colors and the gentle glow of a light source exerts a special fascination on them. This natural enthusiasm makes the tassel lantern a perfect craft project for children.

When children work with different colors, they train their visual perception and learn to recognize and create color combinations. Cutting the paper strips also promotes fine motor skills and concentration. The glowing lantern immediately rewards the effort with an impressive result, boosting self-confidence and joy in creative design.

In the evening, the self-made lantern can become a regular ritual – perhaps as a gentle light during reading time or as a calming companion while falling asleep. Such rituals give children security and comfort and turn everyday moments into something special.

Colorful Variations of the Paper Lantern

This lantern can be adapted and changed in many ways:

  • Experiment with different color combinations depending on the season: pastel colors for spring, bright colors for summer, orange and red tones for autumn, or blue and silver for winter.
  • The length of the paper strips can be varied - longer strips create a more dynamic effect.
  • You can glue additional decorative elements like small stars or hearts onto the paper strips.
  • Try different ribbon colors for the hanging that match your color scheme.
  • For a special experience: Use colored LED lights that further enhance the color play of the lantern.

The lantern is light enough to hang it in various places in the children's room or take it along on an evening walk. The battery-operated string lights make it flexible to use and safe for children.
