Simple paper airplane – quickly folded & flies well
Sometimes it just takes a piece of paper to bring a smile to your face - especially with children. This Papierflieger is a classic: quickly made, elegant in shape, and with surprisingly good flying characteristics. Its slim and pointed nose allows it to glide particularly far - perfect for small competitions at home or outside in the park.
We folded, tested, and documented this flyer ourselves with photos. As always, you'll find a pictorial guide with clear descriptions so you can easily follow each step.
Before you begin, we recommend watching the video. This way, you'll get a better feel for the folds and can start right away:
Instructions: How to fold the paper airplane step by step
For this paper airplane, you only need a single sheet of paper. The best choice is lightweight but sturdy printer paper in DIN A4 format.
📦 Material:
- 1 sheet of paper (DIN A4)
- possibly a ruler to smooth out the folds
- a flat surface to work on
With just a few folds, a long, aerodynamic shape with clear lines is created. The wings can be easily bent up or down – this allows for good control of the flight path later on.

Why children love this paper airplane
The combination of simple technique and great flying characteristics consistently excites children (and adults) anew. Particularly the high speed and elegant flight path make this airplane a favorite. Children can develop their own designs, paint them, or even start small competitions – who can fly the furthest?
Folding paper airplanes - more than just play
Folding a paper airplane trains fine motor skills, promotes concentration, and is a lot of fun. Children practice working precisely and showing patience - skills that are also important in everyday life. And the best part: Everything you need, you often already have at home.
