Photoshop actions sometimes have very individual workflows. Therefore, you will find individual instructions for some of our actions, both in PDF and video form. Please take a look at the tutorials for the actions step by step, as they often already answer most questions.
Executing Photoshop actions
After importing a Photoshop action and any associated components, the basic application works as follows:
- Load the image you want to edit into Photoshop.
- Refer to the corresponding instructions or watch the instruction video to see if you need to take any further preparatory measures (see below).
- Open the Actions panel via Window>Actions.
- Select the action you want to execute from the list of your actions.
- Start the action via Execute selection (the button with the play symbol).
From here, the Photoshop action can now either run without any further action on your part or it will stop in between. If the action stops, a message window will open to tell you which steps you need to take manually. For example, you may be asked to insert images that were given to you when the action was downloaded.
Confirm such a message window and carry out the manual steps. Once you have finished, continue the action by clicking on the button with the play symbol again.
Preparing images and functions for Photoshop actions: Tips and tricks
To achieve optimum results, some actions require you to prepare your image before starting the action. Please refer to the instructions for each action to find out what you need to do. Typical examples - and a few tips and tricks:
- If you need to activate the brush tool, use the shortcut B.
- If you need to set the foreground color to black and the background color to white, use shortcut D.
If you need to select your motif and are not yet familiar with the selection tools, take a look at our tutorials on cropping.
