Smart objects are components of PSD files. TutKit.com provides you with various individual contents with PSD files in which these smart objects are available. These are used so that you can quickly and easily apply prepared effects to your own graphics or texts and also create realistic visualizations using so-called mockups.
You can find instructions on how to use mockups here. How else to use smart objects in Photoshop is explained below.
Transferring the effects of a smart object to your own text and graphics
After you have downloaded a single content with Smart Objects from TutKit.com and unpacked the ZIP files, first open the PSD file in Photoshop. So that you can easily reuse the original file later, it is recommended that you first save the file under a different name before making any changes.
Now double-click on the miniature icon of the smart object, which you will find in the layers control panel. This will open a new window in Photoshop in which you can edit the smart object or fill it with your content.
- To insert text into the smart object or change existing text, activate the text tool, set the font and font size and write your text in the smart object.
- If you want to add an effect to a graphic, insert it into the smart object as a shape.
Close the smart object by pressing Ctrl+W. You will be asked whether you want to save, which you confirm with Yes. Your content (text or graphic) is now in the Photoshop file with the desired effect.
You can reposition your text or graphic by moving the smart object using the Move tool. The size can also be subsequently adjusted by transforming.
Smart objects with fonts
In some smart objects, we use certain fonts by default. In principle, you can use any font you want. If you still want to use the font we use and it is not yet available on your computer, take a look here to see how to find and install the fonts we use.
