Design elements and texts can be assigned colors in InDesign. It is possible to assign individual colors. In addition - and this is by far the more practical method - color swatches can also be used.
You should also use the color swatches when editing our design templates. We will explain how to do this below.
Color swatches in InDesign: a change automatically affects all elements
When creating a design, you should work with a predefined set of colors. Advantage one: You can quickly and easily access the same color values again and again to color newly inserted design elements. Advantage two: Using a set results in a uniform overall appearance, even across several pages.
You can put together such color sets using color swatches, which you can then apply to your design elements again and again. If you later make changes to a color field, these will affect all design elements that have been assigned to the color field. This saves you a lot of time.
Change color fields in our design templates
If you want to make changes to the colors in one of our design templates, we recommend using color swatches. This will help you achieve faster results.
We always prepare our templates so that a single color field is assigned to all design elements or text fields that are displayed in the same color. To make changes to this, proceed as follows:
- Open the control panel for color fields (Window>Color>Color fields) or F5.
- Double-click on the color field you want to change.
- This will open the swatch options with all settings.
- You can make the changes to the swatch there. Tip: Activate the checkbox for Preview so that the effects of your changes are displayed directly.
- Click on OK.
Note: To ensure that your colors look good in print, you should stay in CMYK color mode.
