PowerPoint provides so-called slide masters. These contain design and text elements as well as formatting that are valid for your entire presentation or for several slides you have selected.

If you place a blue bar there, for example, or define a specific font format for the heading, the blue bar is displayed on every slide in your presentation and the headings also appear in the formatting you have defined.

You also have the option of creating several slide master pages for a presentation. You can assign a separate slide master to each slide in your presentation.

The advantage: If you want to make changes to your presentation (for example, use a blue heading instead of a green one), you do not have to edit each slide individually. Instead, you simply adjust the settings in your slide master. The changes will then have an immediate effect on all slides to which you have assigned the slide master.

How to edit the slide master

To edit the slide master, open it via View>Slide master. Typical changes that you make are, for example

  • Adjust colors globally: Open the selection menu for colors. There you can either use existing color combinations. Alternatively, click Customize colors... to define your own colors in the Create new design colors window.
  • Customize font globally: Open the selection menu for fonts. Select your desired font design there. You can also use Customize fonts... in the Create new design fonts window to define your own combinations for headline and body fonts.
  • You can edit design elements and images in the slide master in the same way as in the slides.
  • Add new slide master pages

Once you have finished editing the slide master, click on Close master view.
