The scissors tool in Adobe InDesign is a practical tool that allows you to split or edit paths and shapes. It is great for making creative cuts in lines, frames, or objects to give your layout a unique touch. In this guide, I will show you step by step how to use the scissors tool to make precise cuts and flexibly design your objects. Let's get started and explore the possibilities of this tool!
With the scissors tool (Shortcut C), you can split pre-drawn paths or existing vector graphics into two or more parts.
To do this, click on the relevant anchor point of the path with the tool.
If it is an open path, it has now been split into two parts.
With the Direct Selection tool (A), you can now move both parts separately …
… and edit them separately.
For a closed path, click on two anchor points with the scissors.
Then you have separated the shape into two parts, which you can move with the Direct Selection tool and then edit separately.
Similarly, you can separate an existing vector graphic at the nodes with the scissors tool …
… and then continue editing.
